That blue marble

What quote am I vibing? “When we marvel at that blue marble in all its delicacy and frailty, and resolve to save the planet, we cast ourselves in a very specific role. That role is of a parent, the parent of the earth. But the opposite is the case. It is we humans who are fragile and vulnerable and the earth that is hearty and powerful, and holds us in its hands. In pragmatic terms, our challenge is less to save the earth from ourselves and more to save ourselves from an earth that, if pushed too far, has ample power to rock, burn, and shake us off completely. That knowledge should inform all we do...” ― Naomi Klein, This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate

Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild in 2023: 400

All-Time Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild: 3,640

This post is to celebrate the end of summer - encompassing two months of heat, humidity, and mosquitoes. 😀 Summer can be so lovely sometimes, but honestly, in Florida, the summer is hot. Migration is really the thing to do.

But summer this year also brought plenty of rain, which meant seemingly endless growth for my flowers and bushes - butterflies are happily dancing around the yard. We added a cassia bush, and the cloudless sulphur butterflies immediately started showing up, and we now have their caterpillars in chrysalis. I look forward to the cooling off of the autumn, but surely I will miss the abundance of summer.

With this blog post, I've hit 400 pounds for the year! 4 months left and 600 pounds to reach my goal - the math doesn't quite add up, but it's doable!

I hope you all had a similarly abundant summer, safe in the powerful hands of the Earth. I can't wait to find more ways to fall in love with it this fall.
