The Earth is everywhere

What quote am I vibing?  “At this very moment, the Earth is above you, below you, all around you, and even inside you. The Earth is everywhere. You may be used to thinking of the Earth as only the ground beneath your feet. But the water, the sea, the sky, and everything around us comes from the Earth. We often forget that the planet we are living on has given us all the elements that make up our bodies. The water in our flesh, our bones, and all the microscopic cells inside our bodies all come from the Earth and are part of the Earth. The Earth is not the environment we live in. We are the Earth and we are always carrying her within us." from Love Letter to the Earth by Thich Nhat Hanh

All-Time Pounds of Trash Removed from the Wild: 4,247

Spring planting has begun in North Carolina! I had the pleasure of taking a four-week class on Gardening in the Piedmont - this class really helped me put together some thoughts and goals for our yard.

Currently I am focusing on preparing my vegetable (mostly tomato) garden for when it is finally time to put my small plants in the ground. I planted 50 sets of seeds, and 48 gorgeous little plants are the result. What a joy to watch these grow, and get help and advice from my Dad who has been planting tomatoes since before I was born.

For wildlife and aesthetics, I'm focusing on gorgeous native flowers in our front yard - milkweed, yarrow, sunflowers, sweet williams, and Joe Pye weed to name a few. I couldn't resist mixing in a few non-native (but non-invasive) favorites like tulips, zinnia, lantana, and marigolds. (Things pollinators enjoy!)

And of course, feeding and watering wildlife is supported by keeping trash out of their habitats and waterways. We are all the Earth, after all, and the cleaner it is, the healthier and happier we all are.
